Athletics is actually the collection of different games like competitive running, walking, throwing, jumping, track and field running are two main, common and simple factors of athletics. Athletics is known as one of the most simple, common, and complete sports or game in the universe because of its simplicity and expensive equipment. Some of the standardize and organized athletics are trace back to the ancient games from 776BC, along the most events are added by the members of the International Association of Athletics Federations. The word Athletics is derived from Greek word “ATHLOS” which means “CONTEST OR TASK” .
Basically in 19th century in Europe they used the term to define Athletic Contests. As the primary based games or sports are mostly required human physical feats so the term Athletics came to describe the games or sport as competitive Running, Jumping, Throwing, and Walking. In United Kingdom and most of the area including the former British empire used the common, simple, and prominent definition of Athletics for a long time. More over the foreign words like in Germanic and Romanic languages which are related to the term Athletics having similar meaning.
In Athletics some of the sports are oldest of all sports played ever , that’s why their roots are prehistoric, from as early of 2250BC Athletics sports where played in Egyptian tombs in Saqqara, with illustrations of running at heb seb festival. In late 19th Century Athletics became standardized by the support of AAA and other general games e.g Amateur Athletic Union of USA founded in 1888and the UNION DES SOCIETIES FRANCHISES DE SPORTS ATHLETIQUES founded in France in 1889.
In 1896 the Athletics competition was added into the first modern Olympic. In history it was one of the famous and favorite competitions at multi-sport event and this was for men originally later on in 1928 Olympics for women was introduced first time internationally. Athletics got famous and made his name during some major Championships all around especially Olympics but without it Athletics has no name and no fame. The International Amateur Athletics Federation (IAAF)was founded in 1912, but its current name is The International Association Of Athletics Federation. This name was announced in 2001. For the first time an International Competitions for Physical Disabled Athletes was organized in 1952. An International stoke Mandeville games were organized for world war 2 veterans. Athletes who participate in this game was players in wheel chair.
A track Running Race known as the “stade” was the first and only event at the first ancient Olympics in 776 BC. Later on different Running events and distances were added along Jump as well as Pentathlon (describes discus and javelin) track and field were major events of Athens from 1896 till 1928. Amsterdam games women were not allowed to compare or take part in Athletics and after that they compete only in 5 events. on other side men take part in different events but become standardized at all popular games since 1928. Although women’s events nearly matches to the men’s events in numbers. Recently women’s listed to participate in Triple Jump and 3,000m. however the difference between men and women events is that men can participate in 50km Race Walk but the women couldn’t. they can Run over shorter in Sprint Hurdles, and also take part in a seven event heptathlon rather than a 10 event decathlon. Athletics has been a part of every Asian games starting at New Delhi India in 1951.

Track Events:(Defined By Distance In Meters)
100, 200 and 400m:
The event in which Athletes Run fast on a track of 100m, 200m, and 400m, in their own lane for the entire distance. This event is also called Sprint Race.
800m and 1500m:
The event in which Athletes Runs about 800m and 1500m that’s why Athletes can’t maintain their top speed so they are allowed to use their tactics (If they have any). In this event Athletes are also permitted to Run out of lane. This event is called “Middle Distance Races”.
5000m and 10,000m:
The event where the Athletes Run about 5000m, and 10,000m out of lane, In this event endurance is vital in addition of tactics.
110m Hurdles (100m For Women) and 400m Hurdles:
The event where the Athletes have to Run and also have to Jump over 10 barriers equally spaced down the track. About 110m and 400m, and for women the Race is about 100m Only. In this Event men have higher Hurdles and a little longer distance to cover than Women.
In this event the Athletes has to do all of work. They have to Run over endurance Hurdles, and after an obstacle free first lap, Athletes have to tackle five Hurdles including a Water Jump on every successive lap. This was the only men’s event at Doha 2006.
4 x 100m and 4 x 400m Relays:
In this event the race is of teams Sprint in which four Athletes Race in sequence of 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m passing a baton to a next team Runner, If The Athlete drop a baton that team will disqualify. The Winner Team will be that whose final Athlete crosses the Exit line with the baton.
Athletics In Pakistan:
The Country PAKISTAN gave excellent and famous Athletes who dominated the Asian Athletic scene for many of years, few PAKISTANI Athletes made records in Asian Games. After a lot of struggle and effort other Athletes got success in breaking those records. The most famous was by the name of ONE TIME FASTEST MAN OF ASIA “Abdul Khalid” was also a PAKISTANI, He was beaten in 100m, and 200m Sprint in the Asian games Athletic event. A PAKISTANI Athlete Ghulam Raziq was the greatest high Hurdler of Asia. He was included in the ten best Hurdlers of his time. Ghulam Raziq was the Athlete who qualified in the 110m Hurdles Race to the semi final of dual successive Olympics at the place of Melbourne in 1956 and in Rome in 1960.
PAKISTAN also left famous Athlete in other Olympic events, Iqbal, Yousaf Malik, and Malik Noor were unbeatable Hummer Throwers. Performance of Mubarik Shah was extra ordinary outstanding in long distance Rave of 500m and 10,000m Races. The record holder of Sprint Races was Sharif Butt, famous Athletes of Javelin Throwing were Nawaz and Jalal, famous Athlete of Board Jumping was also a PAKISTANI named Muhammad Ramzan and the record holders PAKISTANI Athletes in pole vaulting were Saparas Khan and Allah Ditta.
In early sixties when the great PAKISTANI Athlete got faded in that critical time it was M.Yunus who kept the name, fame and flag of PAKISTAN high in Asian games. M.yunus was a middle distance Runner in 1500m race. But after the retirement of these famous, brave and talented Athletes the participation in Athletics and in Asian games has just became a mere formality for PAKISTAN.
